So after wanted to dive into Cinema 4D for a little while now I finally loaded cg.Tuts+ and took the plunge! It’s always hard starting with a new program, after finishing my first tutorial I felt right at home. I’m a long time blender user (about 6 years or so) and I have to say, Cinema 4D’s interface is very similar to Blender 2.5′s. Although they both handle 3D completely different, once you connect the dots of features from one to the other and realize how the process works in the other program it’s relatively easy.
So the tutorial I followed was a tutorial on creating a growing tree! After following the tutorial exactly I realized that the finished project the author shows if after he modified the values! So I decided to play around and follow another tutorial on HDRi lighting aswell as global illumination. I also tweaked the textures aswell as the actual keyframes of the animation (I animated almost every aspect of the tree growth instead of simply the branch growth). Making the end result look like a tree growing at a rapid pace!
I owe the maddest of props to DPit’s Plant Effex for making the tree possible! It’s a great plugin at a relatively affordable price (compared to other solutions such as SpeedTree weighing in at nearly $11,000).
So here’s my animation, enjoy!

That’s cool. I have been wanting to get into 3d lately. I tried to download blender (so I wouldn’t have to spend money) but apparently it doesn’t work on windows 7 64 bit. What do you recommend?
As I said in my post I’ve been a blender user for 6 years, so if you don’t have money for an expensive program go with blender.
It doesn’t work on your computer? Make sure you download the 64 bit version. If you did and it still isn’t working post up your computer specs. What version of blender did you get? Did you get the 2.55 beta or 2.49?
